IT isn’t often that I wish I was younger, but I’d have given anything to be young enough to take part in this high octane, constantly moving evening of songs from the movies.
The brilliant production team of Claire Camble-Hutchins (staging & choreography) and Stuart Darling (musical arranger & director) brought a totally professional gloss to the show, and the 12-strong, well-costumed cast did them proud.
Many of the songs were familiar favorites such as A Whole New World, I’m a Believer, Live and Let Die, Welcome to the Sixties, Me and My Shadow and Mamma Mia, but it was also good to hear half a dozen or so less well-known numbers – Show Me Heaven was especially effective.
Each song ran smoothly into the next, the standard of singing was mega-high and the choreography was absolutely superb, reaching its zenith during Pinball Wizard, when the moves mirrored an actual pinball game.
What really set this concert apart though was that every person on the stage gave the impression of being totally relaxed and confident, and of knowing exactly what was expected of them, allowing the audience the freedom to sit back and enjoy – which they most certainly did.
